movers_blogThere are countless things that could go wrong during an interaction or business exchange with a furniture rental company. The thing is, many furniture rental disasters can be avoided by simply practicing good communication.

What do we mean by good communication? Keep reading to find out. In this article, we’ll cover several straightforward things you can do to ensure that you’re communicating effectively with your furniture rental company — and avoiding any unnecessary glitches along the way. After all, we want as badly as you do to have a positive furniture rental experience.

Pick up the phone or talk in person.

The internet makes things like renting furniture incredibly convenient. Without ever stepping foot into a furniture store, you can select a furniture rental package and place your order online.

While Corporate Connection has organized our business model to be online-shopper friendly, we still encourage customers to call us in order to nail down details. This gives furniture renters the opportunity to ask questions that might be specific to their situation, and it gives our relocation specialists the opportunity to explain how the furniture rental process goes, avoiding any surprises along the way.

Confirm the delivery date.

Determine a delivery date for your rental furniture and remember it. Write it down so you don’t double book yourself, and make sure you know if there are any expectations of you in order for the furniture to be delivered. For example, do you need to be present to unlock the apartment. Is there outstanding paperwork you haven’t signed? Is there a payment that needs to be made prior to delivery? These are all things you should know before delivery day.

Ask about the pet policy.

Not all furniture rental companies have a pet-friendly policy. We do! But we can’t say the same for every other relocation service and furniture rental company in the Carolinas.

If you have a dog or cat, be sure to mention that detail to the furniture vendor you’re working with. You don’t want them cancelling your order at the last minute because they found out you have pets.

Keep paperwork in the same place.

Any documents your furniture rental company gives you should be kept together. (A folder is a great way to keep things organized.) If most communication with your furniture vendor has been online, keep emails organized in your inbox, and save all confirmations in a file on your computer.

Paperwork and documentation can get overwhelming sometimes, but it serves a purpose. Many times, you can find answers to your own questions in the paperwork provided by your furniture rental company. Besides, wouldn’t you rather get the answer on your own rather than pick up the phone and call your vendor to ask anyway?

Report damaged furniture.

If, when your furniture is delivered, you notice any damages, take note of them and let your furniture rental company know immediately. The purpose of notifying them is not so you can request a replacement. It’s simply so that you don’t get charged for the damaged furniture at the end of your rental term. Take pictures and send an email the day you receive the furniture so there’s proof that the damage wasn’t your doing.

Pay on time.

One of the biggest learning curves for customers and service companies usually involves payments. It’s important to get the details about payment terms and deadlines so you don’t get hit with unexpected fees along the way. If possible, set up recurring payments to avoid late penalties. If not, set a calendar reminder to pay your bill each month.

Another side note about payments — tipping your movers is always appreciated. It’s not required or necessarily expected, but it is a nice gesture for the team that’s been lifting your heavy bedroom set, dining furniture, and everything else you rented to furnish your temporary living space.

And now we’ve come full circle…
