Don’t get distracted by the details.
Sometimes when you’re consumed with a task, it’s easy to get sucked into the details and lose momentum. Before you know it, you’ve spent four hours doing something that should have taken you two, and the things you spent the most time on will go unnoticed by the average person.
You can’t afford to make this mistake when you’re in a time crunch, and you need to clean your apartment. The key is to focus on the big things.
Instead of scrubbing the floorboards, which most people never look at, dust off the coffee table, which is more visible. Instead of moving the rug and mopping the floors underneath, just sweep the worst areas.
Speed cleaning is essentially the same as spot cleaning, so do not try to deep clean. That will slow you down, and you’ll be out of time before you’ve cleaned a single piece of furniture in your apartment.
Grab a laundry basket.
Stand inside the front door of your apartment, and take a visual assessment of the space. What’s out of place? Once you’ve noted the things that look like they’ve been sloppily dropped here or tossed there, grab a laundry basket and start collecting these items. Unopened mail, shoes, jackets, and electronics are all common culprits. Instead of putting everything away individually, you’ll save a lot of time by scooping it all up at once.
If you only have time to scoop things up, then go ahead and put the laundry basket in your bedroom closet or another place where your guests won’t see it.
Use your starter cleaner caddy.
One key to fast cleaning is to keep all of your cleaning supplies together in a caddy. That way, you can just grab the caddy and start cleaning.

Make sure you hit the bathroom countertop, mirror, and toilet with a few spritzes of cleaner, and wipe them down with a paper towel. You’re just trying to get the hair, toothpaste, and makeup residue out of sight.
The easiest way to tackle the shower is to just close the curtain. Make it easy on yourself. Remember, you’re in a hurry here.
Eliminate dirty dishes.
As far as the kitchen goes, the important thing is that you don’t have crumbs, spills, or dirty dishes on your countertop.
If you have time to wash your dishes, great. If you don’t, then put them somewhere out of sight temporarily. The dishwasher or the oven work just fine.
Spruce up the patio.
Many furnished apartments have a balcony or patio entrance off of the living room area. Typically the door that opens to the patio is a large window, making the patio one of the first things guests notice when they walk into your apartment.
Patios are also a nice place to hang out, so make sure yours is ready for company. Even if you’re not planning on sitting out there, make sure it looks nice by fluffing pillows, arranging chairs that have been moved around, and turning on your patio lights if you have them.
Light a candle.
It’s amazing how much a clean scent can give the impression of a clean space. When a guest walks into your apartment, and it smells nice and fresh, they assume their nose is telling them the truth — your apartment must actually be nice and fresh.

- A cleaning fee is applied to your account to cover standard cleaning.
- Be sure to remove all garbage, food and personal belongings from the apartment.
- Leave the apartment in a clean and orderly condition.
- To avoid unnecessary additional charges, take good care of your apartment while you’re renting. Cleaning deemed necessary beyond normal wear and tear (such as carpet stains that cannot be easily removed) will result in additional fees.
- In general, it’s a good idea to make a habit of doing quick cleaning sessions regardless of whether you have guests coming over or not. This reduces the amount of cleaning you’ll have to do before you leave your apartment and before the next resident moves in.
